Medical Resurvey of Nutrition in Newfoundland, 1948

Department of Public Health and Welfare, Government of Newfoundland | Toronto, ON | 1948

A medical survey of nutrition in Newfoundland done in 1944 found that generally poor health of Newfoundlanders resulted from poor nutrition. This resurvey was completed in 1948 to evaluate the effectiveness of measures taken by Government to improve nutrition. While the efforts of government were successful, progress was more the result of improved economic conditions, and diet improved accordingly. It was noted that even though improvements were seen in most areas of testing, there was still a vitamin C deficiency which needed to be addressed.
