My name is Khiya Hillyard and this is my site! Nan's Kitchen is dedicated to the food and culture of my home—Newfoundland and Labrador.
I am a Newfoundlander stuck on the Mainland attending university. Currently, I am in my final semester at the University of Ottawa in History and Political Science. While studying at the University, I developed a passion for Canadian social history, particularly of my home province.
I am also a proud public servant serving Canada's Veterans at Veterans Affairs Canada.
When I don't have my head in a history book, you can find me cooking-up a storm or knitting my heart out.
About the Site
This site was created for a Canadian history seminar at the University of Ottawa, Canadian Material History in the Digital Age. The aim of this course is to explore Canadian history using material methods and digital tools. Therefore, this site will explore the foodways of Newfoundland and Labrador through a digital medium.
